Deadlines

Make sure you're registered to vote by October 4th.

Alaska needs to RECEIVE your request for an absentee ballot by October 24th, either online or by mail, email, or fax. Postmarks don't count, so get it in early!

Exceptions for special situations: if you are ill or disabled, you can designate someone to bring your ballot to you and deliver it back. Alaska also offers electronic transmission ballots for anyone who may need them. Both of these options are available starting 15 days before Election Day.

Your ballot needs to be postmarked by Election Day if mailed, or received by 8pm on Election Day if dropped off — but don't wait, get that baby in ASAP!

FYI: Changes at the Post Office

This is important: USPS recently changed its policies and won’t always postmark mail the same day it’s picked up from a mailbox — or even the day after. To guarantee a same-day postmark, you’ll need to go to a post office and ask for a manual postmark. All the more reason to mail things early!

Instructions

Place your ballot inside the gray secrecy sleeve, then put that little package inside the return mailing envelope.

Make sure it's all sealed up!

Sign and date the envelope and include ONE "identifier" on the envelope where indicated. There is a list of options on the envelope (write your birthdate, the last four digits of your SSN, or your driver's license number).

Have your witness sign and date the envelope too. Your witness needs to be at least 18 years old.

Fold over the flap on the envelope and seal the flap at the top and bottom.

Put a stamp on it!

Pop it in the mail. It must be postmarked on or before Election Day, and received by November 13th. Alternatively, you can deposit it in an official dropbox, or if you like to live by the seat of your pants, you can take it to a voting location on Election Day. But don't push the envelope on this, get it in early!

A third party can return your ballot for you!
