Deadlines

Register to vote by October 16th. Connecticut has same-day registration if you miss this deadline, but you'll need to vote in person.

Request an absentee ballot by November 2nd (but earlier is better! We recommend applying at least two weeks before Election Day).

If you're dropping off your completed ballot in person, it must be received by your municipal clerk's office by closing time on November 2nd — that's the day BEFORE Election Day.

If you're mailing it, your ballot must be received by 8pm on Election Day, so you should pop it in the mail by October 27th to make sure it has enough time to get there.

Exceptions for medical emergencies: if you have a last minute illness, disability, hospitalization, or admission to a nursing home within 6 days before the election, you can designate someone to bring your ballot to you and drop it back off. Call your Town Clerk and ask about getting an Emergency Ballot — they'll give you all the details.

FYI: Changes at the Post Office

This is important: USPS recently changed its policies and won’t always postmark mail the same day it’s picked up from a mailbox — or even the day after. To guarantee a same-day postmark, you’ll need to go to a post office and ask for a manual postmark. All the more reason to mail things early!

Instructions

Sign the envelope where indicated. Your signature should match your voter registration.

No need to put a stamp on it — Connecticut pays your postage!

If you're dropping off your completed ballot in-person, it must be received by closing time at your municipal clerk's office on November 2nd. If you are not able to take it yourself, you can have someone drop it off for you but they must be a family member or caregiver

Mail your ballot early (we recommend October 27th) to make sure it is received by 8pm on Election Day
