you can vote by mail if you
Are registered to vote by October 13th. DC will send a ballot to all voters registered by the deadline.

Military and Overseas Voters

Deadlines
Make sure you’re registered to vote by October 13th. DC has same-day registration available if you miss this deadline, but you’ll need to vote in person.
Ballots must be postmarked by Election Day and received by November 13th - but don’t delay, vote early!
If you’re dropping off your ballot in a dropbox, do that by 8pm on Election Day.
FYI: Changes at the Post Office
This is important: USPS recently changed its policies and won’t always postmark mail the same day it’s picked up from a mailbox — or even the day after. To guarantee a same-day postmark, you’ll need to go to a post office and ask for a manual postmark. All the more reason to mail things early!
Instructions
Put your completed ballot in the secrecy sleeve, then put the secrecy sleeve into the return envelope.
If you’re a first-time voter and registered by mail or online, you’ll need to provide a copy of some kind of ID with your ballot — click here for details.
No need to put a stamp on it — DC covers your postage for you!
Sign and date the Voter's Oath on the back of the return envelope where indicated. Your signature should match your voter registration.
If you’re mailing your ballot, make sure it’s postmarked by Election Day.
If you’re dropping your ballot in a dropbox, do so by 8pm on Election Day.
You can also take your ballot to your polling place on Election Day and drop it off there if you prefer (or someone can drop it off for you!).
