Deadlines

Make sure you’re registered to vote by October 10th.

Request an absentee ballot by October 30th at 12pm — but earlier is better! We recommend applying at least two weeks before Election Day.

Exceptions for medical situations: if you’re sick, injured, or disabled, you can vote with an electronic ballot. Fill out the Special Qualification section on the application if you want to use this option.

If you’re mailing your ballot, drop it in a mailbox by October 27th or as early as you can — it must be RECEIVED by Election Day.

If you’re dropping off your ballot, do so by 8pm on Election Day.

FYI: Changes at the Post Office

This is important: USPS recently changed its policies and won’t always postmark mail the same day it’s picked up from a mailbox — or even the day after. To guarantee a same-day postmark, you’ll need to go to a post office and ask for a manual postmark. All the more reason to mail things early!

Instructions

Place your ballot in the return envelope provided.

Sign the envelope where indicated and seal it. Your signature should match your voter registration.

No need for postage - Delaware covers you!

Put it in the mail or drop it off at your county’s Department of Elections. Your ballot must be received at your county election office by 8pm on Election Day — so don’t delay!

Someone else can drop off your ballot for you.

DO NOT take your ballot to the polling place, that opens up a whole other can of worms.
