Deadlines

Make sure you’re registered to vote by October 5th. If you miss this deadline, register by November 2nd so you can participate in any runoff elections.

Submit a request for an absentee ballot and it is RECEIVED by 5pm on October 23rd — but earlier is better! Especially if you’re mailing your application. If you’re disabled or over 65, you can opt in to get absentee ballots for any runoff elections without having to make another request.

Exceptions for medical emergencies: in some counties, voters who are hospitalized can have a ballot delivered to them by the registrar’s office. If you are hospitalized before the election, contact your registrar’s office directly to ask about your options.

Your ballot has to be in the County Registrar’s office by 7pm on Election Day. We really recommend that you drop it off as early as possible at one of the State’s ballot dropboxes (though you can do it as late as Election Day). If you’re putting it in the mail, you should do so by October 27th along with a prayer that a full week is enough time to get it to the County Registrar’s office.

Heads up that Georgia has runoff elections on December 1st for any races where no candidate gets over 50% of the vote! Keep an eye on local news after Election Day to find out if you have any runoff elections to vote in. Deadlines are:

  • Register by November 2
  • Request your ballot by November 20
  • Mail your ballot by November 24 or ASAP
  • Election Day is December 1 — ballots must be received by 7pm

FYI: Changes at the Post Office

This is important: USPS recently changed its policies and won’t always postmark mail the same day it’s picked up from a mailbox — or even the day after. To guarantee a same-day postmark, you’ll need to go to a post office and ask for a manual postmark. All the more reason to mail things early!

Instructions

Include your driver’s license number in the designated area or a photocopy of another photo ID.

Put your ballot in the return envelope provided.

Sign your envelope where indicated. Your signature should be the same one you used to register to vote.

Put a stamp on it.

We recommend that you drop your ballot off or mail it as early as possible — it must be RECEIVED by Election Day.

A near relative (this means the family members listed in this law) or member of your household can drop off your ballot for you. If you have a disability, your caregiver can also drop off your ballot for you.
