Deadlines

Register to vote by October 13th.

Your request for an absentee ballot must be RECEIVED by October 27th (but earlier is better! We recommend applying at least two weeks before Election Day).

Exceptions for medical emergencies: under Kansas law, voters who are ill, injured or disabled (and their caregivers) can apply for a ballot after the normal deadline. Contact your county election office directly to ask about your options.

Make sure your ballot is received by Election Day (Kansas courts are actually fighting about the ballot receipt deadline right now, so we recommend playing it safe — plan for your ballot to be received by Election Day regardless of postmarks). So if you’re putting it in the mail, you should really do so by October 27th, or as early as you can. Or you can take it to a drop off location. Ballots may also be dropped at your polling place on Election Day.

FYI: Changes at the Post Office

This is important: USPS recently changed its policies and won’t always postmark mail the same day it’s picked up from a mailbox — or even the day after. To guarantee a same-day postmark, you’ll need to go to a post office and ask for a manual postmark. All the more reason to mail things early!

Instructions

Place your ballot in the return envelope provided.

Some voters will need to include a copy of their ID or other additional info. If this is required, there will be a notice included with the ballot they send you.

Seal the envelope.

Sign and date the envelope where indicated. It should match your registration signature.

Write your address on the back of the envelope where indicated.

Maybe put a stamp on it? It depends on your county so look out for the instructions.

Someone can drop off your ballot, but you and the person dropping it for you will need to fill out the Affidavit of Assistance.
