Deadlines
Register to vote by October 5th, by 4pm if applying online.
Your request for an absentee ballot must be RECEIVED by 11:59pm on October 20th.
Ballots must be RECEIVED by 6pm on Election Day. So if you’re putting it in the mail, you should really do so by October 27th to be safe. Or you can take it to a drop off location. Ballots may also be dropped at your polling place on Election Day.
Exceptions for medical emergencies: if you or your spouse has a medical emergency after the absentee ballot request deadline, you can apply for Medical Emergency Absentee Voting. A close family member can apply for you, pick up and/or drop off your ballot if needed. The application must be notarized. Contact your County Clerk ASAP if you need to use this option — they’ll help you out.
FYI: Changes at the Post Office
This is important: USPS recently changed its policies and won’t always postmark mail the same day it’s picked up from a mailbox — or even the day after. To guarantee a same-day postmark, you’ll need to go to a post office and ask for a manual postmark. All the more reason to mail things early!
