Deadlines

Register to vote by October 13th.

Your request for mail-in ballot must be RECEIVED by 5pm on October 27th (emailed or faxed applications accepted until 11:59pm). But earlier is better! We recommend applying at least two weeks before Election Day.

Exceptions for emergencies: if you have an emergency after the normal deadline and can’t vote in person, you can designate someone to deliver your application, pick up your ballot, bring it to you, and deliver it back — including on Election Day. Just remember that the deadline below still applies!

Ballots must be postmarked (if mailed) or received (if hand delivered) by Election Day — but don’t push it, vote early!

FYI: Changes at the Post Office

This is important: USPS recently changed its policies and won’t always postmark mail the same day it’s picked up from a mailbox — or even the day after. To guarantee a same-day postmark, you’ll need to go to a post office and ask for a manual postmark. All the more reason to mail things early!

Instructions

Put your ballot in the return envelope provided.

Sign the return envelope where indicated.

If you’re going to mail it, be sure to put it in the mail as far in advance of Election Day as you possibly can! We recommend no later than October 27th. No need to put a stamp on it — Maryland pays your postage for you!

Or if you’re dropping it off with your local election office, no postage is necessary. Drop it by 8pm on Election Day at the latest!

Someone can return your ballot for you.

Or you can drop it off at your polling place on Election Day.
