Easy Peasy
you can vote by mail if you
Are registered to vote by October 16th (by mail or online) or October 23rd (in person).
Apply for an absentee ballot by 6pm on October 23rd.
Heads up that Nebraska calls their absentee voting “early voting” so you may hear or read that phrase more.

Military and Overseas Voters

Deadlines
You must be registered to vote by October 16th (by mail, online, or at other government offices) or October 23rd (in person at your county clerk’s office).
Your application for an absentee ballot must be received by 6pm on October 23rd.
Ballots must be received by Election Day by close of polls (8pm Central/7pm Mountain) — so you should put it in the mail by October 27th to be sure it arrives in time to be counted.
FYI: Changes at the Post Office
This is important: USPS recently changed its policies and won’t always postmark mail the same day it’s picked up from a mailbox — or even the day after. To guarantee a same-day postmark, you’ll need to go to a post office and ask for a manual postmark. All the more reason to mail things early!
Instructions
Put your ballot in the return envelope provided and seal it.
Sign the envelope where indicated. The signature should match your registration.
If you want to mail your ballot, pop it in the mail by October 27th. Some counties are paying your postage for you, but some ask you to put a stamp on it yourself. Check your return envelope and put a stamp on if needed.
Or you can drop it off at a county ballot drop off site. You can have someone drop your ballot off for you if you need.
DO NOT take it to your polling place on Election Day — if you do, you’ll have to destroy it and then cast a provisional ballot.
