Easy Peasy

you can vote by mail if you

Are registered to vote by October 13th. Oregon does all mail-in elections, so there are no polling places and every registered voter will be mailed a ballot.

Deadlines

Register to vote by October 13th.

If you are temporarily living elsewhere and need your ballot mailed to you instead of the address where you are registered to vote, you need to update your mailing address using the voter portal. Technically there’s no deadline for doing this, but the Secretary of State’s office recommends getting it done ‘as soon as possible’. If you’re worried the ballot might not be mailed to you in time, get in touch with your county election office to ask about your options.

Ballots must be postmarked or dropped off by 8pm on Election Day — if you’re mailing, we recommend doing that by October 27th. Ballots postmarked by Election Day will be counted if they’re received by 7 days after the election.

FYI: Changes at the Post Office

This is important: USPS recently changed its policies and won’t always postmark mail the same day it’s picked up from a mailbox — or even the day after. To guarantee a same-day postmark, you’ll need to go to a post office and ask for a manual postmark. All the more reason to mail things early!
