Deadlines

Register to vote by October 26th. Washington has same-day registration if you miss this deadline, but you’ll need to vote in person.

If you need your ballot sent to an address other than your home, apply for a Special Ballot with your county elections office. There’s no official deadline for this, but ballots are usually mailed out 18-20 days before the election, so try to apply earlier than that if you can.

Ballots must be postmarked or dropped off by 8pm on Election Day. Ballots postmarked by Election Day will be counted if received up to 20 days afterwards.

FYI: Changes at the Post Office

This is important: USPS recently changed its policies and won’t always postmark mail the same day it’s picked up from a mailbox — or even the day after. To guarantee a same-day postmark, you’ll need to go to a post office and ask for a manual postmark. All the more reason to mail things early!

Instructions

Place your ballot in the security envelope provided.

Put that little bundle you just made into the return envelope provided.

Sign the return envelope where indicated. Your signature should match your voter registration.

If you cannot sign, make your mark where indicated and have two witnesses sign the envelope.

No stamp needed — Washington covers your postage for you!

Take your ballot to an official dropbox by 8pm on Election Day.

If you’re mailing your ballot, pop it in the mail at least a few days before Election Day, to make sure it gets postmarked in time.

Someone can return your ballot for you if you want.
